Norton in Hales have re-signed their former title-winning captain Darren Long.
Long led the Tractor Boys to the North Staffs and South Cheshire League Premier Division crown in 2002 to complete a remarkable rise up the local cricket ladder.
They progressed from Senior B to become top-division champions in the space of five years – and are now looking to bring more success to the club.
Long, aged 48, has also spent time at the likes of Knypersley and Sandyford before moving to Kidsgrove.
The former Cheshire batsman is one of four new signings announced by the Division Two outfit – and all have arrived from Kidsgrove.
Adeel Khalid, who skippered Grove this summer, and experienced duo James Pringle and Ant Sheeran have also made the move to Norton in Hales.
Khalid is an all-rounder, while Pringle and Sheeran strengthen the club’s spin department.
The club tweeted: “Norton-in-Hales CC are delighted to announce FOUR winter signings from Kidsgrove CC – Darren Long, Adeel Khalid, Ant Sheeran and James Pringle.
“All four players offer something different but they all have great experience at this level and we welcome them to the club.”
Norton in Hales finished in second place in Division Two in this summer’s shortened season, behind champions Porthill Park 2nd XI.
That would usually have seen them make the move up to Division One for next year, but no promotion or relegation was in operation after the league made alternative plans for cricket because of the coronavirus pandemic.
NSSCL Division Three side Wedgwood have also been active in the transfer market.
They have announced four new signings to bolster their options for the 2021 campaign.
Two are all-rounders, both from Moddershall & Oulton, as Rob Bagnall and Ben Myatt have completed moves to the club.
Opening bowler Gareth Kinsey has also joined, while batsman Kens Jones switches from Ashcombe Park.
