  • Jame Spencer’s mount slipped and unshipped him causing him to hurt his hip
  • Spencer was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospitalin Cambridge and awaits surgery

Leading rider Jamie Spencer is facing sometime out of the saddle following an accident on the Newmarket gallops on Friday.

The 39-year-old Irishman was returning to the David Simcock stable after riding work when his mount slipped and unshipped him causing him to damage his hip.

Spencer was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospitalin Cambridge and was waiting to hear whether he would require surgery.

His agent Niall Hannity said: ‘He has a hip injury and they’re not sure whether he will require surgery yet.

‘I’ve spoken to him and he’s in good spirits,although he’s in a fair bit of pain, but he’ll be fine.’ 

Leading trainer Mark Johnston has revealed he began isolating last week and that a test onWednesday confirmed he had Covid-19.
