Live: Emergency services tackling large blaze near Stoke-on-Trent supermarket

Emergency services have been called to a large blaze near a Stoke-on-Trent supermarket.

Police officers and firefighters were dispatched to the scene in Williamson Street, Tunstall, not far from the Asda in Scotia Road, at around 4.30pm this afternoon.

The steps leading to the supermarket have been cordoned off by police, while members of the public have been advised to avoid the area for the time being.

Six crews of firefighters are tackling the blaze, believed to be in a derelict building, with a water carrier en route.

A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “It was a derelict building involved on fire and we have six appliances, an aerial ladder platform in attendance.

“We’re getting a water carrier en route. We want people to avoid the area and people nearby to keep doors and windows closed.”
