Longton Park incident: police called to ‘reports of a body’



An investigation is underway after police received reports of a body being found at a park.

Emergency crews descended on Longton Park shortly after 8am today.

All entrances to the park, on Trentham Road, were sealed off as a police cordon was put in place.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “We were called to Longton Park shortly before 8.20am to reports of a body being found. Enquiries are underway.”

Eyewitnesses said the police activity seemed to be centred in the lake area of the park.

It is understood a forensic team was at the scene along with several police cars and ambulance crews.

One witness said: “There were two ambulances and five police cars. All entrances and exits were taped off.”

Another added: “There was a large police presence. Forensics, ambulance and many police cars. The gates to the park were taped off.”

Police have now confirmed the park has reopened to the public.
