Traffic was stopped in both directions on the M6 motorway in Cheshire due to an ongoing ‘police incident’.
Vehicles were stopped on both the northbound and southbound carriageways near Lymm Interchange in the north of the county.
Highways England first confirmed the closure was in place at around 4pm this afternoon – but had lifted it by 4.15pm.
A Highways England spokesman said: “Traffic has now been released on both carriageways of the M6 atJ20A Lymm Interchange and the incident has been safely resolved.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding and have a safe onward journey.”
Traffic cameras showed vehicles were queueing as a result of the incident – with motorists asked to stay in their vehicles.
We have no further information on the nature of the incident at this stage.
This is unconnected to the stranded vehicle on the southbound carriageway between J18 and J17.
