A busy Staffordshire Moorlands road is closed today to allow roadworks to take place.
It is shut between the junctions of Thorncliffe Road and Thorncliffe Lane.
The closure came into force this morning, Friday May 22, and is set to reopen at 2pm.
Diversions are in place.
A Staffordshire County Council spokesman said: “Staffordshire County Council being the highway authority responsible for the repair and maintenance of Buxton Road in Leek are satisfied that it is necessary to close that length of Buxton Road from junction of Thorncliffe Road to Thorncliffe Lane for a period of 1 days but no more than 5 days from 22nd May 2020 because of the likelihood of danger to the public during carriageway resurfacing being undertaken by Staffordshire County Council.
“Access will be available for pedestrians and for vehicles being used in connection with the works and for emergency services vehicles or for vehicles requiring access to premises on the length of road which is closed.
“An alternative route for traffic is available via Buxton Road, Springfield Road, Springfield Drive, Ashbourne Road, Ball Haye Street, Stockwell Street, Church Street, Mill Street, Macclesfield Road, Leek Road, London Road, Cross Street, Mill Lane, The Silk Road, Brook Street, Union Road, Buxton New Road, Unnamed Road Section Of A537 From A54 To County Boundary, Unnamed Road From The Street To A54, Unnamed Section Of A54 From Macclesfield Main Road To County Boundary, Unnamed Section Of C138 From A54 To A53 Leek Road, Unnamed Road Section Of A53 From Axe Edge To Stanley Moor, Old Buxton Road and vice versa.
