Major Stoke-on-Trent road closed for days due to oil spill

A major Stoke-on-Trent road has been forced to close due to yet another oil spill.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council made the decision to shut Reginald Mitchell Way in Tunstall from the Wickes Roundabout to the A500.

It comes just weeks after the council revealed it would haveto spend over £200,000 on the nearby James Brindley Way.

The latest oil spill comes after a crash earlier in the day.

Council bosses believe the earliest the work can be completed will be Friday.

A Stoke-on-Trent City Council spokesman said: “There’s been another oil spill on Reginald Mitchell Way following a road traffic accident earlier today.

“For the safety of all road users, we’ve had to close the road from the Wickes roundabout going down towards the A500.

“Traffic is being diverted via Goldenhill and Burslem.

“The damaged areas will be resurfaced on Friday, which is the earliest slot we can get with our contractors.

“It is not the same section of the road we recently resurfaced following a separate oil spill last month.”
