Man arrested after police called to incident in North Staffordshire street



A man has been arrested after police were called to an incident in a North Staffordshire street.

Officers were dispatched to Station Road, in Halmer End, at around 10.50pm last night (June 15) following reports of an assault.

A 42-year-old man, from Newcastle, was later arrested on suspicion of common assault and possessing a weapon for the discharge of a noxious gas – believed to be a pepper spray.

He remains in custody.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “At 10.50pm last night (15 June) officers were called to an address off Station Road in Halmer End following reports of an assault.

“A 42-year-old man from Newcastle-under-Lyme was later arrested on suspicion of common assault and possessing a weapon for the discharge of a noxious gas – believed to be a pepper spray. He remains in custody at this time.

“Incident number 822 of 15 June.”
