Man charged after elderly man injured in robbery in Stoke-on-Trent park


A 54-year-old man is set to appear in court following a robbery in a Stoke-on-Trent park.

An elderly man was injured in the incident, which took place in Central Forest Park, Hanley, on Monday afternoon.

This morning police confirmed Stewart Lee Garner will appear in court today.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said:  “Detectives have charged a man in his fifties with robbery following an incident in Hanley Central Forest Park on Monday (June 22).

“Stewart Lee Garner, aged 54, of no fixed address, is charged with robbery and assault causing grievous bodily harm and will appear before magistrates in Newcastle-under-Lyme this morning (June 24).

“An elderly man who was injured in the park remains in hospital in a stable condition.”

An area of the park near Union Street was cordoned off for most of Tuesday as a police investigation into the robbery took place.
