Man in ‘serious condition’ as armed fight breaks out on Stoke-on-Trent street


A man suffered head injuries and remains in hospital in a serious condition after a mass brawl broke out on a city road.

Police say they were called to reports of ‘groups of men fighting’ on Chaplin Road in Normacot last night with ‘weapons seen’.

Now Staffordshire Police have launched an appeal for witnesses as the force also steps up patrols in the area to provide reassurance to residents.

The disorder broke out at around 9.40pm on Thursday.

A spokeswoman said: “We are appealing for witnesses after a man suffered head injuries during disorder in the Normacot area last night.

“The disorder occurred at around 9.40pm and involved groups of men fighting, with weapons seen, in the Chaplin Road area.

“We are increasing patrols in the area to provide reassurance.

“A man is in hospital in a serious, but not believed to be life-threatening, condition.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service was also called to the scene.

A spokeswoman said: “We were called at 9.55pm last night to reports of an assault in Chaplin Road. We sent two ambulances and a paramedic officer to the scene. We treated one man for potentially serious injuries and he was conveyed to hospital for further treatment.”
