Man shot by ‘gang of youths’ on North Staffordshire estate – armed police called and helicopter scrambled


Armed police descended on a North Staffordshire estate after a man was shot by a ‘gang of youths’.

Officers carrying guns descended on Ball Haye Recreation Ground in the Haregate area of Leek after the victim was struck by an air pellet at around midnight.

Sniffer dogs were also brought in to help track down those responsible.

Eye-witnesses reported seeing the police helicopter scouring the area for around 15 to 20 minutes.

It is believed a large group of young people were involved.

No arrests have been made at this stage.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “Armed officers were deployed to the Ball Haye Green area of Leek following reports of male being hit by an air pellet.

“An area search with the National Police Air Service was negative. If you have any information please get in touch.”
