Man taken to hospital with serious injuries as crash to shut A53 ‘for hours’



A man has been taken to hospital after being seriously injured in a crash.

Emergency services were called to the A53 Newcastle Road near Loggerheads following a one-vehicle collision shortly before 8pm this evening (November 7).

The driver was freed from the wreckage before being taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

The road remains blocked in both directions as an investigation continues into the night.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “We received a report at 7.48pm of a single vehicle collision on the A53 Newcastle Road near Blore Heath.

“The fire service and ambulance also attended.

“A casualty has been taken to hospital with serious injuries and the road remains closed for an investigation at this time.”

Engines from Loggerheads Fire Station attended the scene.

A spokesman said: “At approximately 8pm a collision has blocked the A53 between Loggerheads and Market Drayton.

“Emergency services are on the scene. The road is likely to be closed for several hours.”
