Mark Bright back at Port Vale to help raise funds for fans group

Former Port Vale striker Mark Bright is back at the club in April to help raise funds for Super Vale Abroad.

The ‘Evening With Mark Bright’ event is at Vale’s Park’s CJ Bayley Lounge on Friday April 3.

The event is being staged by the Vale Abroad group – the collection of supporters who raise funds to support the club and local fans.

They work closely with the Vale Foundation to help fund match experiences and tickets for local schoolchildren to attend games.  Super Vale Abroad has more than 100 members, based across the world, including Australia, the United States and Scandinavia.

They are proud to welcome Bright who had been released as a youth player by Vale but was invited back by John Rudge and then manager John McGrath after playing for Kidsgrove Athletic, Leek Town and the Masons Arms.

He was given a one-year part-time contract on £10 a week at the Vale, combining that with his job for Staffs Hydraulics in Kidsgrove.

That work paid off. After making his Vale debut at the end of the 1981/82 season, Bright moved on to Leicester City, in 1984, and also played for Crystal Palace, Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton. He experienced two promotions, two relegations, two FA Cup finals and a League Cup final.

Super Vale Abroad say: “The event will review Mark’s outstanding career in football including those first steps at Vale Park, as described in his recently launched autobiography From Foster Care to Footballer. It will be hosted by Phil Bowers from BBC Radio Stoke.

“There will be an informal Question and Answer session and an opportunity to purchase copies of Mark’s book at a special price. Mark will be available to meet everyone personally and to sign books purchased on the night.

“Tickets for this exclusive event are available on a strictly limited basis at £40.00 each or £320.00 for a table of 8. The evening starts at 7.30pm and includes a three-course meal.

“To avoid disappointment, reserve your place now by contacting David Thorley using the details below but please hurry because tickets are selling fast.

“Ticket reservations exclusively via David Thorley. Tel: 07791 795401 david-thorley@outlook.com
