Matalan reopens in Stoke-on-Trent – and these are the strict social distancing measures in place


Popular high street clothing and homeware store Matalan has reopended in Stoke-on-Trent.

The store – on Heathcote Road, in Longton – announced it had reopened yesterday (Friday) after being closed for a number of weeks.

 It is one of 37 in the UK to open.

In a statement to customers, bosses at the store said: “Following our decision to close our stores almost eight weeks ago, we’ve been working tirelessly on preparing our stores for reopening with enhanced health and safety measures and strict social distancing guidelines to ensure we offer the safest shopping environment for you.

“Given the change in government guidance on May 1 to include homeware as essential retails in England we are now pleased to inform you that we are starting to reopen selected store.

Slowly but surely, some eateries across Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire have been re-opening – albeit with new social distancing guidelines firmly in place.

“We’re pleased to let you know that your Longton store is now open. Our click and collect service has also resumed so you can order online and pick up if you prefer.”

Shoppers will see a number of changes at the store.

These include:

– A reduced number of customers allowed in store

– A change in the layout of the store to give shoppers more space

– Floor markers for people to keep their distance

-Hand sanitisers and cleaning products to clean the trollies and baskets

– All staff have been issued with PPE

– Staff have all been trained to support social distancing

– The fitting rooms and toilets have been temporarily closed

Other safety measures at the store include in store safety marshalls, signage and radio announcements to support safer shopping, new screens at the tills and cleaning throughout the day to include door handles.
