Stoke City boss Michael O’Neill spent four hours chatting to new signing John Obi Mikel before the Nigerian midfielder put pen to paper on a deal at the Bet365 Stadium earlier – and he says he was left stunned by his ambition.
The former Chelsea star, 33, has won the Champions League, Europa League, Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup during his near-400 appearances in England.
But he isn’t done winning yet, as he was quick to tell his new Potters boss earlier today.

Mikel still wants to add one more line to his already impressive honours list: A promotion.
“We’re delighted to bring John to the club,” O’Neill told Stoke City’s official website as he unveiled his new signing.
“His playing career speaks for itself and underlines his calibre as a player.
“I was really impressed with him when we met for the first time and he outlined what he wants from the next phase of his career.
“We spent four hours talking,” he revealed, “and he made it clear that he wants to get back into the Premier League and finish his career there.
Adding: “Hopefully he can do that with Stoke City.”
