Michael O’Neill spells out transfer ‘danger’ for Stoke City

Michael O’Neill has spelt out “the danger” for Stoke City in the transfer market.

The Potters boss has revealed he was surprised by the wages the club was paying players when he took charge at the bet365 Stadium in November – and, using Sheffield United and Norwich City as an example, he is determined to spend the cash he is given to rebuild his squad well.

“I was a little surprised at the levels of salary in the Championship when I took over,” he told the Daily Mail.

“This club has looked after players very well — both in the Championship and the Premier League — and from that point of view the right players at Stoke will do well.

“I look at how Sheffield United made it to the Premier League and how Norwich made it. It’s not all about spending, it’s about spending well.

“The danger is signing players who just see Stoke as somewhere nice to go and play for a few years. I don’t want players who just want a nice life.”
