Planning is under way for the popular Stafford Half Marathon to return this year.
The 2020 race was one of the few events to escape cancellation last year, taking place in March, only days before the Prime Minister announced the country was going into lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The half marathon, which traditionally takes place in the spring, will move to Sunday, September 19.
Race director Liz Hulse said: “We are delighted to be able to announce the date for the 2021 Stafford Half Marathon.
“Following consultation with our partners and governing bodies, this race has been moved from the spring to the autumn, allowing for the best possible safe return of this popular event.
“We have all been encouraged to stay active during the coronavirus outbreak to support our physical and mental wellbeing.
“People have been out walking, jogging and running – it’s a great way to clear your head, stay active, and get some fresh air and sunlight.
“Many people have found a new or renewed passion for running during the 2020 lockdown – the 2021 Stafford Half Marathon is a great target for runners to train towards and keep active, we can’t wait to see everyone at the start line in September 2021.”
Councillor Carolyn Trowbridge, cabinet member for leisure at Stafford Borough Council, said: “This is great news for Stafford, not only to see things moving forward for one of the most popular sporting events in the county calendar, but a real boost to all those who look forward to taking part and raising thousands of pounds for local charities.
“So many plans have had to be shelved in 2020 and many people were left disappointed that they were unable to take part in organised races and other events.

“I think we have taken a sensible decision to move the race from its normal slot in March to later in the year, when we hope the new vaccines will mean a sense of normality returns to our world.
“I hope everyone will now put this date in their calendar and start preparation early in the new year.”
