NHS porter dies at Leighton Hospital after testing positive for coronavirus

An NHS worker has died at Leighton Hospital after testing positive for coronavirus.

Brian Darlington was a long-serving porter at the Mid Cheshire Hospitals, which runs the Crewe hospital, as well as Northwich’s Victoria Infirmary and the Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford.

A staff member at Leighton Hospital for more than 20 years, Brian, from Crewe, will be fondly remembered for his sense of humour and positive outlook by his friends and colleagues in Hotel Services.

His wife of 46 years, Ava, led the tributes to Brian describing him as a great husband.

She added: “We were married for 46 years and Brian was a great husband, as well as father and grandfather.

“He was dedicated to the Trust and as a family we are grateful for and appreciative of all of the kind words and messages we have seen and received.”

Colleague Richard Studinski, the Facilities supervisor said: “Nothing was ever too much trouble for Brian; he worked hard and was happy to do whatever was needed of him.

“He always walked round the hospital with a smile on his face; passing out sweets to colleagues he’d meet on the corridor.”

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust chief executive James Sumner said: “Brian had dedicated more than 20 years to the Trust during his NHS career and will be sadly missed by all who knew and worked with him.
