Police are hunting arsonists who have started nine fires in the same woodland.
Firefighters are this evening tackling several blazes in Swallowmoor Wood, off Linley Lane, Alsager.
They were first called out shortly before 5pm.
An investigation revealed the fires were started deliberately and the police have now been informed.
It comes after there have been reports of youths hanging around the woods to smoke weed and drink.
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We are in attendance at Swallowmoor Wood off Linley Lane where we have located nine separate fires in the woodland.
“Some of these are deep seated involving bracken and trees. With the dry weather fires can easily get out of control. Police informed.”
Firefighters in Staffordshire have also issued a warning over starting fires.
Helen Chadwick, station manager at Leek, said: “The devastation from that time can still be seen on The Roaches and no one wants it to happen again. Please make sure you take your litter home and don’t have barbecues – save them for when you’re home.
“People will be visiting the Moorlands this weekend but I ask people to be sensible about where they go, where they park their cars and what they do when they’re here.
“When you park your car please ensure you don’t block access for firefighters and other first responders who might be needing to use the roads – this is unfortunately something we’ve seen a lot of in recent weeks.”
