No Covid-19 deaths in North Staffordshire in latest weekly update

No deaths with Covid-19 have been reported in Stoke-on-Trent or surrounding areas of Staffordshire in the latest weekly update.

Figures released this morning by the Office for National Statistics show no more deaths with coronavirus had been recorded in the area in the week ending August 28.

A total of 204 people from Stoke-on-Trent have had Covid-19 mentioned on their death certificates since the start of the pandemic.

In surrounding areas there have been 144 in Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough, 79 in the Staffordshire Moorlands and 120 in Stafford Borough.

Across the border in Cheshire East there have been 558 deaths – including one in the latest week’s update.

These figures could update due to late registrations of deaths.

Just over 57,400 deaths involving Covid-19 have now been registered in the UK.

Figures published today by the ONS show that 52,316 deaths involving Covid-19 had occurred in England and Wales up to August 28, and had been registered by September 5.

Figures published last week by the National Records for Scotland showed that 4,228 deaths involving Covid-19 had been registered in Scotland up to August 30, while 873 deaths had occurred in Northern Ireland up to August 28 (and had been registered up to September 2), according to the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency.

Together, these figures mean that so far 57,417 deaths have been registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate, including suspected cases.
