A business based in Longton has been spreading festive cheer this week – by transforming a basic trailer into a magical Christmas sleigh – complete with Santa!
Eileen Colclough, along with her partner and friends, set up their business, KD Car Mod’z, a year ago and, after a tough year, the team wanted to do something positive for local people during the festive season.
Eileen, along with Daniel Dean, Calvin Hurst, Michaela Hurst, Heath Ciupek and Sarah Ciupek, transformed a basic, run-down trailer into a magical sleigh fit for Santa and his elves.
They took their first trip on Sunday evening (December 20) and managed to reach as many good girls and boys as possible before Christmas.
“I’m from Bentilee and we haven’t had a Santa going around this year,” said Eileen.
“It’s the same for a lot of areas. With the current situation, they have all been cancelled and things have been very different.
“We used one of our KD Mod’z vans and got a trailer from a local gardener. We got the trailer at about 7pm on Friday (December 18) and it needed a lot of work, including a new floor. We didn’t finish until about midnight.
“Then we were back in at 10am the next day and worked until 10pm that night.
“It’s been a real community effort. We were donated the trailer and Europl8 also gave us our number plate. Then absolutechristmas.co.uk gave us our Christmas decorations, all free of charge, to decorate the sleigh.”
After all of their hard work, the KD Car Mod’z Santa sleigh made its maiden voyage on Sunday evening around Bentilee and the surrounding areas including Beaconsfield and Newstead.
“On Sunday we were finally ready and did our first ride around Bentilee and the surrounding areas. We didn’t want to go too far because we wanted to test the trailer.
“A lot of areas have never had a Santa so we really wanted to reach as many people as possible.”
Eileen says the response to the sleigh was ‘absolutely amazing’, with the sleigh being met by a lot of happy youngsters – and parents!
“The reaction has been absolutely amazing and people were over the moon to see us – I think the parents have loved it more than the kids!
“It was a lot of hard work getting it all ready, but it was so worth it to see all of the smiling faces. Everyone needs something like this after such a hard year.”
