The number of people who have died after testing positive for coronavirus across hospitals in Cheshire has risen over the past day.
Figures released by Public Health England show a total of 80 people have now died from Covid-19 at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which includes Crewe’s Leighton Hospital.
Figures report there are 588 people who have tested positive for coronavirus in Cheshire East.
The total number of people who have died of the disease now stands at 16,060.
It’s important to note that this isn’t the total number of people who have died – it’s the number of people who have died in hospital having contracted coronavirus that have been included in today’s publicly released figures by the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England.
Many hospitals will not report deaths that happened over the weekend until the middle of the following week. The real number of fatalities – including those in care homes, at home etc – will be higher.
