A total of 139 people have now died with Covid-19 at the Royal Stoke and Stafford’s County Hospital sites since the start of the pandemic – up from the 127 confirmed as of yesterday’s update.
At least 190 people have also been discharged from the hospital after recovering since the beginning of the outbreak.
The number of people who have died at the North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust – which operates Harplands Hospital – remains at one.
Three more deaths have also been confirmed at the Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which includes Leighton Hospital in Crewe – bringing the figure there up to 89.
Another four deaths were reported at at East Cheshire NHS Foundation Trust, which oversees Macclesfield District General Hospital and Congleton War Memorial Hospital, with 51 people having died after contracting the virus.
It’s important to note that this isn’t the number of people who have died in the last 24 hours – it’s the number of people who have died in hospital having contracted coronavirus that have been included in today’s publicly released figures by the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England.
Many hospitals will not report deaths that happened over the weekend until the middle of the following week.
The real number of fatalities – including those in care homes, at home etc – will be higher.
