One death with Covid-19 recorded in North Staffordshire in latest weekly update



One more death with Covid-19 has been recorded in North Staffordshire in the latest weekly update from the Office for National Statistics.

The figures, covering up until the week ending August 14 and registered by August 22, show a total of 546 people from Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme, the Staffordshire Moorlands and Stafford Borough, have had coronavirus mentioned on their death certificates since the start of the pandemic.

The deaths are recorded by a person’s area of usual residence, rather than where they actually died.

Across all four areas deaths in hospitals make up a majority – with a total of 341.

Care homes made up the second most common location, with 168.

Just under 57,200 deaths involving Covid-19 have now been registered in the UK.

Figures published on Tuesday by the ONS show that 52,091 deaths involving Covid-19 had occurred in England and Wales up to August 14, and had been registered by August 22.

Figures published last week by the National Records for Scotland showed that 4,216 deaths involving Covid-19 had been registered in Scotland up to August 16, while 866 deaths had occurred in Northern Ireland up to August 14 (and had been registered up to August 19) according to the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency.

Together, these figures mean that so far 57,173 deaths have been registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate, including suspected cases.
