Peter Crouch v Piers Morgan: When is the Paddy Power Golf Shootout?

Ex-Stoke City striker Peter Crouch is stepping away from the world of podcasts and punditry to take on professional golfers in a unique tournament on Friday, June 5.

The retired England star, who made 261 appearances for the Potters between 2011 and 2019, is one of a number of celebrities lined up for the Paddy Power Golf Shootout event at the Centurion Club in Hertfordshire.

Fans of the six-foot-seven former goalscorer will no doubt be aware of his own history with the game. In 2018, images of the lanky centre-forward were a hit online as his vast stature, combined with a set of normal sized golf clubs, saw the internet make light of the contrasts in scale.

He will be joined on the day by other sportspeople who have become media personalities such as Ashes-winner Freddie Flintoff and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp along with current Tottenham Hotspur and England striker Harry Kane and daytime TV host Piers Morgan.

They will not be alone. Joining them on the greens in St. Albans will be five professionals with impressive records across the European Tour and the Ryder Cup.

But what is the Paddy Power Golf Shootout, who will be taking part and what will it include?

When is the Paddy Power Golf Shootout?

The Paddy Power Golf Shootout takes place on Friday, June 5, with Crouch one of five celebrities playing alongside five professional golfers.

Where is the tournament being hosted?

The Centurion Club in St Albans, Hertfordshire is the venue for the event.

Who will be playing?

In total there will be 10 famous faces involved across the professionals and the amateurs.

From the world of golf, Crouch and his fellow celebrities will be teeing off alongside Andrew “Beef” Johnston, three-time Ladies European Tour-winner Carly Booth, ex-Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley, Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn and world No. 10 Tommy Fleetwood.

When will the tee off times be?

The Paddy Power Golf Shootout is set to take place across two sessions, the first of which is scheduled to tee off at 12 noon, featuring a range of challenges that are designed to bring golf to a very different audience.

One task will see the players attempt to set the longest drive by recreating the scenes from the comedy golf film Happy Gilmore, in which Adam Sandler’s character takes a run up and swing to drive the ball down the fairway.

A second session will then tee off in the afternoon at around 3:45pm as players battle it out for a shootout to decide who will make it to the final.

What are the Centurion Club’s previous major events?

Even before hosting the Paddy Power Golf Shootout, the Centurion Club could claim to have been a proving ground for some rather more radical versions of golf.

Back in 2017 the golf club was the birthplace of the GolfSixes tournament, which pitted 16 pairs of golfers against each other from around the world in a novel short-form competition.

The inaugural tournament was won by Danish duo Lucas Bjerregaard and Thorbjorn Olesen.

More recently, the Centurion Club was awarded the right to host the prestigious Ladies Professional Golf Association’s UL International Crown for 2020.
