Plans have been submitted to rebuild a former care which was gutted in a fire leaving 150 elderly and disabled residents homeless,
Beechmere Extra Care residential home in Crewe was devastated by the blaze which took hold last August.
Fire investigators revealed the blaze which gutted the home on August 8 last year started on a roof terrace area of the building.
The fire was accidental.
About 150 people were evacuated from the building due to the blaze which 16 fire engines attended from across Cheshire, Staffordshire, Shropshire and Merseyside.
Firefighters were at the scene for four days.
Now Avantage has applied to Cheshire East Council for permission to rebuild on the same site on Rolls Avenue
According to the design and access statement submitted with the application: “It is proposed to replace the original structural timber walls with more robust masonry walls to provide better fire protection for the new structure.”

The new building will provide the same number of apartments – 132 – as the previous one on almost the exact same footprint.
The building will include a restaurant, village hall, lounge, winter garden, fitness suite, activity room, IT room/library, hairdressing salon and residents’ lounge, as well as laundry facility and staff/kitchen/service.
The applicant states in the design and access statement: “The fundamental strategy for the replacement building is to build off the existing slab.
“The building will be traditional in terms of its construction in order to provide an appropriately contextual approach to the local area.
“It is proposed to replace the original structural timber walls with more robust masonry walls to provide better fire protection for the new structure. Similar pitched slate and timber roof structure, lightweight eco-joist floors, as used in the original construction, would be utilised throughout as well as the first floor steel and concrete transfer structure in the centre block.”
It continues: “The replacement Beechmere Extra Care facility has the same project description as that previously approved (Nov 2006) and constructed on the site, it will be built on the retained slab of the original building, will follow the same building footprint, will be of a comparable scale to the original building, will use the retained car parking, site accesses and open space areas (re planted), will utilise existing site infrastructure and will provide the same number of apartments with support facilities.”
The application is expected to be decided by members of Cheshire East’s southern planning committee on September 2, reports CheshireLive.
