Police officers are asking families to stay off Staffordshire’s tow paths during the coronavirus lockdown.
With the UK on a Covid-19 lockdown, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has ordered families to only leave their homes for one exercise a day, work, food, or essential items.
Officers from Staffordshire Police have since been going around the county closing off country park car parks and warning the public to stay away from beauty spots such as the Roaches or Cannock Chase.
It comes after officers admitted there had been some confusion with whether or not families could travel further afield for their single permitted exercise trip each day.
While a number of beauty spots have been closed off – it seems residents are now heading towards the waterways.
A Moorlands Police spokesman said: “There has been a reported increase in canal tow paths being used to walk and exercise.
“Please consider that people live on the canals and are social distancing.
“Please exercise from home and then stay at home. Don’t go out unnecessarily and keep yourselves safe. Support the NHS.”
