Police ban troublemakers from North Staffordshire town after officer injured

Police are banning troublemakers from a North Staffordshire town after an officer was injured.

Officers were dispatched to The Marsh in Wolstanton and Newcastle town centre over the weekend following reports of anti-social behaviour.

While responding to reports of ASB at The Marsh yesterday, one officer suffered injuries to his wrist while making an arrest. A man was taken into custody in connection with the incident.

And after also responding to reports of anti-social behaviour in Marquis Drive, Cannock, Staffordshire Police have put a dispersal order in place at the three locations.

The orders, in place until Tuesday, give the police powers under the Crime and Policing Act 2014 to disperse anyone for the purpose of reducing the likelihood of members of the public being harassed, alarmed or distressed and to prevent crime or disorder.

Officers will be in the areas and carrying out high visibility patrols. Anyone that fails to leave will be arrested.

Chief Inspector Clair Langley said: “We are in an unprecedented time and it’s everyone’s responsibility to follow the Government’s guidance in order to save lives.

“Receiving these reports of anti-social behaviour is extremely disappointing in a time where we are all trying to keep safe.

“Anyone flouting the rules and making the most of the weather by drinking in popular beauty spots will be dealt with and these orders give us the power to arrest those responsible.”
