Police called as gunshots heard in North Staffordshire

Police were called to a North Staffordshire village after concerned residents reported hearing gunshots.

Families in Forsbrook and Blythe Bridge raised the alarm after hearing several loud bangs close to Draycott Old Road from around 9pm last night (June 14).

Officers searched the area but confirmed no suspicious activity or weapons were found.

One resident said: “It’s happened for two nights in a row. We were out walking towards Foxfield on the first night we heard it.

“There are definitely shotgun sounds coming from the woods. We were quite close so we made a diversion. It’s very unsettling when you have your daughter and dog with you.”

Another added: “It definitely wasn’t a car back-firing.”

And a third said: “We have heard what sounds like gunshots for a while now. It always seems to be on a weekend and in the evening.

“I have heard there are poachers in the fields around the area but I don’t know whether that is true or not.”

It is the latest of a number of false alarms involving gunshots in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire over the last few weeks.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “We were called to Draycott Old Road in Forsbrook at around 9.30pm last night to reports of gunshots being heard in the area. Officers attended and found nothing untoward.”
