Police called in as travellers set up illegal camp near North Staffordshire playing fields



Travellers have set up an illegal camp close to North Staffordshire playing fields.

Caravans were spotted moving on to land off Birchenwood Way, Kidsgrove, earlier today (June 4).

Eye-witnesses reported that boulders were moved to access the site, close to the skate park.

Police have since visited the families after being alerted at 1.30pm.

It comes after travellers moved on to Goldenhill Golf Course earlier this week.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “We are aware of the travelling community who have parked at Birchenwood Way in Kidsgrove.

“The report was made at 1.30pm today. Officers have visited the site and we are working closely with our partners, including the local authority, to reassure local residents and resolve the matter.”
