Travellers have set up an illegal camp on a publicly-owned Staffordshire park.
Six caravans turned up on the on playing fields used as a football pitch on Bank Holiday Monday (May 25).
Police were then seen speaking to some of the families earlier today (May 26).
Officers are now ‘closely’ monitoring the site at Pennycroft Park, in Uttoxeter.
The caravans and vehicles used to tow them were spotted on the grass in the park, BurtonLive reports.
It comes as open spaces and parks across the area have only just reopened due to the coronavirus lockdown.
Meanwhile, travellers haver moved 700 tonnes of rubble and built a fence to create an illegal permanent campsite close to the Swan With Two Necks pub at Blackbrook.
Drone footage released to StokeonTrentLive shows the field has been covered in hardcore with two park homes and six caravans in place.
Referring to the Uttoxeter site, an East Staffordshire Borough Council spokesman said: “The council has been made aware of travellers on Pennycroft Park and its enforcement team are currently investigating.”
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “We have been made aware of a group of travellers who are on a site off Pennycroft Road in Uttoxeter.
“We will be monitoring the situation closely.”
