Police called to A50 after person in distress spotted on bridge



Police have been called to the A50 after a person in distress was spotted on a bridge above the dual carriageway.

Officers were dispatched to a footbridge near Meir shortly before 6.30pm this evening.

The dual carriageway is blocked in both directions as the emergency services deal with the incident.

Several members of the public were seen trying to talk the person to safety.

A spokesman for traffic monitoring company Inrix said: “The A50  Uttoxeter  Road is blocked in both directions, with queuing traffic, due to police incident at Broadway (Meir Tunnel Interchange).

“Both sides of the Meir Tunnel are blocked to assist.”
