Police helicopter called in to help search for missing man in distress



The police helicopter was called in to help with a search for a missing man in distress.

Officers had been called to Leek town centre at around 1.20am this morning following reports the man had been sighted.

After attending the scene and calling for help for the police air service, officers located the 51-year-old.

A Staffordshire Police spokeswoman confirmed the man had been taken to a place of safety.

She said: “Officers were called at 1.20am to reports of a missing man that was in distress in Leek town centre.

“The National Police Air Service was deployed to assist in the search.

“The man, a 51-year-old from the Leek area, was found and detained under the Mental Health Act and taken to a place of safety.”
