Police hunting arsonists after pile of 50 tyres set on fire sending huge plume of smoke into North Staffordshire sky

Police are hunting arsonists after a pile of tyres were set on fire – sending a huge plume of black smoke into the sky above North Staffordshire.

Firefighters were called to the old Stoke Speedway site, in Loomer Road, Chesterton, at around 3pm today (March 17).

An investigation revealed 50 tyres had been deliberately set alight.

It comes after major plans have been lodged to build industrial units on the site.

Developer Cole Waterhouse wants to redevelop the Loomer Road Stadium which was the former home of the now-defunct Stoke Potters which shutdown last year.

“Around 50 tyres were on fire. Investigators believe it was started deliberately.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 358 of March 17.
