Police make arrest after nurse’s car ‘written off’ in suspected A50 hit-and-run

Police investigating a suspected hit-and-run crash on the A50 have made an arrest.

They have questioned a 39-year-old Stoke-on-Trent man after arresting him on suspicion of committing a motoring offence.

It follows the screening of CCTV footage which captured the moment an overtaking motorist moved back into the left-hand lane and clipped another vehicle’s wing mirror. It then smashed into that vehicle’s windscreen.

The damaged vehicle was being driven by a nurse who was heading home following a gruelling 12-hour shift.

The collision happened on an eastbound slip road at around 8.50pm on Friday, April 17.
