Police officer injured in tussle with motorist who did a runner after car pulled over

A police officer has been injured in a tussle with a man who fled a car in Staffordshire this evening (January 8).

Officers from the Staffordshire Road Policing Unit pulled over a vehicle at around 8.30pm as they suspected the driver had no insurance or licence, but he fled on foot.

The officers were forced to run after the man, which resulted in a tussle on the floor when a police officer managed to detain him.

The officer suffered ‘tarmac wounds’ as a result of the scuffle and has now been treated at the minor injuries unit.

A Staffordshire Road Policing Unit spokesman said: “After a little foot chase and a roll on the floor with the driver of this car we managed to deal with him for No Licence or Insurance.

“Only a little trip to Minor Injuries for one of our team to sort a few tarmac war wounds out and get bandages Keith Lemon would be proud of.”
