Police step up patrols after reports of anti-social behaviour and people starting fires


Police are stepping up patrols in North Staffordshire and South Cheshire following reports of ant-social behaviour and people starting fires.

Officers will be spotted this evening in Werrington and Alsager after a number of incidents.

In Werrington, the local policing team received reports a large group of youths were causing anti-social behaviour.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman appealed for any concerned residents to get in touch.

He said: “Local officers are in the Werrington area this evening, following reports of large groups of youths causing anti-social behaviour.

“Please make us aware of any sightings or concerns you have, we are here to support your community.”

Meanwhile in Alsager, officers are patrolling woodland off Linley Road after getting tip-off people have been starting fires there.

The incident in Alsager comes after firefighters were called to Swallowmoor Woods last night after another blaze was started and had to be extinguished.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “We are currently patrolling the woodland off Linley Road due to reports of people setting fires in this location.

“If you see anything suspicious in this area, please let us know via 101 or 999 and ring 999 immediately if any fire is spotted.”
