Port Vale boss answers questions on Robinson and McKirdy as they are left out

John Askey says Harry McKirdy and Theo Robinson are being made available to clubs as Port Vale look to move them on in the January transfer window.

Versatile forward McKirdy and striker Robinson were left out of the squad for Tuesday night’s game at Bradford.

Now Askey has confirmed that both players are available for a move as he looks to free up space in his squad to sign players.

Both players signed in the summer, Robinson on a free transfer from Colchester and McKirdy on a free from Carlisle.

But they have struggled to force their way into the side and so their possible exit is no surprise as the manager is keen to bring in fresh faces. If he can get get both players to new clubs that would make savings in the budget as well as giving him leeway under the EFL cap of 22-players in a squad.

Askey said: “Yes they are available. With only being able to have 22 in your squad then you have to do that. Normally you would look to bring players in and not have to think about that.”

In the absence of McKirdy and Robinson, Askey called up academy players Michael Lennon and Luke Chambers to the squad at Bradford. Both were on the bench, joining academy striker Eden Bailey who was also an unused substitute at the weekend.

Vale produced a gritty performance in the goalless draw at Bradford, a welcome response to the 2-0 defeat at home to Barrow on Saturday.
