Port Vale fitness update on Mark Cullen, Manny Oyeleke, Cristian Montano, Scott Brown and James Gibbons

Port Vale players Mark Cullen, Manny Oyeleke, Cristian Montano and Scott Brown are all set to train tomorrow as the injury list clears up ahead of the new season.

Cullen (ankle), Oyeleke (calf), Montano (hip) and Brown (groin) all missed Saturday’s 2-1 win at home to Rochdale but have made progress.

The only player not expected to train is James Gibbons who suffered a knee injury in training but he isn’t expected to be out long term.

That potentially gives manager John Askey options for the start of the League campaign, at home to Crawley on September 12, but it remains to be seen whether he would risk them in Saturday’s Carabao Cup first round tie away to Scunthorpe.

The Vale also have an EFL Trophy game at home to Tranmere on September 8, before their league season begins.

The Scunthorpe match is Vale’s first competitive fixture since the season was cut short in March with then eighth in League Two and on an eight-game unbeaten run.
