Port Vale have been drawn away to fellow League Two side Scunthorpe in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
The Vale finished above their opponents in the league last season, but haven’t got a great record in that part of Lincolnshire.
In fact, they haven’t won in 90 minutes there since 1973 – although that rather depressing statistic doesn’t take into account that Vale have won there twice on penalties in the Trophy.
Vale should also kick off there with confidence after a terrific end to last season as they went eight games unbeaten to only miss the play-off places by a point.
Today’s draw was split into North and South sections but was unseeded. However, the possibility of a Potteries derby was avoided as Vale were drawn away and Stoke given a home tie against League One Blackpool.
Other highlights included Barrow away to Derby in Barrow’s first season back in the Football League since 1972.
