Port Vale step up pre-season campaign with 2-1 win at Fleetwood

Port Vale earned a 2-1 win at Fleetwood in this afternoon’s behind-closed-doors friendly.

Goals from Tom Conlon and a Rhys Browne penalty were enough for the Vale in the game staged at Fleetwood’s Poolfoot Farm training ground.

The victory follows Vale’s 2-1 defeat at home to another League One side, Blackpool, on Saturday.

John Askey fielded a strong side as he steps up his preparations for the September 12 start to the League Two season, and saw his side take an early lead as Conlon fired into the top corner from just inside the area.

Saunders levelled ten minutes before the break but Vale regained the lead almost immediately as Browne was brought down in the area before levelling from the spot.

David Amoo and Tom Pope then went close to extending Vale’s lead after the break.
