Port Vale update on Jake Taylor and Cristian Montano after they miss Cheltenham game

Port Vale are hopeful Jake Taylor and Cristian Montao will be available for next week’s home game with Crawley after they were ruled out of this afternoon’s goalless draw at Cheltenham.

On-loan Nottingham Forest midfielder Taylor was ill while left back Montano has been suffering with a back problem.

Manager John Askey said: “Jake should be back in on Monday. With Monty, I felt it was best to just give him that bit of a breather. He has been carrying a knock and by giving him a breather he should be fully recovered on Saturday.”

Vale have dropped a place to eighth, outside the play-off places by a point, after the goalless draw at Whaddon Road.

They had penalty shouts for Mitch Clark and Tom Conlon turned down and also went close through Mark Cullen and David Amoo against a Cheltenham side who had won their previous five games.

Vale are now eight games unbeaten, but have drawn their last three.
