Port Vale’s Tom Pope on play offs as Exeter, Colchester, Cheltenham and Northampton line up

In some respects it will be difficult to watch the League Two play-offs when the first legs start tonight, with Colchester v Exeter and Northampton v Cheltenham.

We could have been there having been only a point away when the season was cut short back in March.

It’s disappointing when you have been so close, but to be honest I am also looking forward to actually watching some live football on TV again.

So, who is going to go up? I’m going for Exeter. They’re a good footballing side who have been in the play-offs for the last couple of years without quite making it.

So, for sentimental reasons, I’d like them to do it. I’d also like them to do it because it takes forever to get to Exeter away. I’ll be rooting for them or Colchester.

I think Exeter are the best side in there. They have a great striker in Ryan Bowman who is a really strong, aggressive centre forward. They also have loads of quality in midfield with the likes of Nicky Law and also Randell Williams out wide.  Add to that some solid, experienced players at the back and you can see why they are a solid outfit.

Having said all that, it is very tough to call. Colchester are powerful and have a lot of pace in the side, Cheltenham are similar with three big centre halves and also pace up front and out wide.

Then there is Northampton who also a big side but with quality players like Nicky Adams on the wings.

Colchester and maybe Exeter are probably the best footballing sides, but the play-off games are going to be really physical and set pieces will be important.

Whoever wins, it will be a bit strange watching without crowds, but the fact the games are being played at all gives us hope for next season.
