‘Response is incredible’ – Port Vale fans’ Lorne Street fund-raising latest

Port Vale fans have raised close to £4,000 within 24 hours of launching an appeal to help complete the Lorne Street Stand.

Around 100 supporters have donated since the appeal was launched on Friday evening.

The Vale Supporters Club is organising the fund-raising after voting to support the owners in efforts to finish the 20-year old structure which has remained half-finished since it was opened 20 years ago.

Vale’s owners will put permanent seats into the unfinished part of the structure in time for the Robbie Williams charity concert on June 20. But the club has to build a concourse behind that half of the stand in order to open it for regular football matches.

So, fans have started fund-raising to help with the cost of that project, which could run to more than £100,000.

Donations can be made on the gofundme page set up by the Supporters Club.

Fans will hand over money to the owners as it is raised so work can be done in stages.

The issue was debated at Thursday night’s supporters’ meeting when fans were overwhelmingly in favour of backing the project.

Supporters Club chairman Mark Porter is delighted with the response.

He said: “The response in 24 hours has been incredible. It just shows what the fans think about Port Vale. We want to thank all those who have donated.

“It’s a really good project, we want to leave a legacy for Port Vale fans for years to come. This is about the community, the supporters and the club.

“Whether it is £1, £100, of £1,000, everything will make a difference.

“Also, if anyone has ideas for fundraisng for this, please contact me.”
