Online electrical retailer AO has opened a huge new warehouse in South Cheshire – so staff can maintain social distancing while they’re at work.
The company has opened a 110,000 square foot distribution facility in Crewe to serve a growing number of customers and big-name brands including Aldi, Simba and The Cotswold Company.
The new warehouse – which is called Latchford – is the third in the town for AO which now boasts just under one million square foot in the town.
The opening of the new facility will mean AO can ‘easily keep on top of social distancing and keep its 779-strong workforce safe and keep the business rolling.’
John Roberts, founder and CEO of AO, said: “Latchford is named after Alan Latchford, who passed away sadly in March. Alan was on the other side of the famous £1 that led to the creation, 20 years ago, of AO.
“On Christmas Eve 1999, he bet me £1 that we couldn’t use the internet to transform how people buy white goods. Twenty years on, the opening of our Latchford warehouse will now be a lasting tribute to Alan.”
Once fully operational, Latchford is expected to be able to store up to 35,000 more items, from white goods to sheds and furniture.
Crewe is also home to AO Logistics’ head office and two distribution centres, Alpha and Omega, which opened in 2012 and 2016 respectively.
