‘Ridiculous’ – Stoke City fans furious with EFL over behind closed doors plans

Stoke City fans have been reacting to the latest announcement from the EFL, which stated that matches could be played behind closed doors.

The Potters’ season is currently suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak, with no clear sign of when, or indeed if, the campaign will resume.

Prior to the suspension, Stoke occupied 17th place in the Sky Bet Championship table, three points above the relegation zone with nine league fixtures left to play.

In an open letter from EFL chairman Rick Parry, he admits he does not know when games will restart, but expects them to be played behind closed doors whenever football can get underway.

Stoke fans have been reacting to this news, with an overwhelming amount express their anger and frustration.

Here is a selection of what they had to say.

Roy Price: “I’m seriously considering packing football in and cancelling my season ticket. No thought for the fans who are lifeblood to any club. Money rules the game.”

Lisa Cobden: “I don’t understand how they think this can happen. If it isn’t safe for me to sit next to someone in the stands how is it safe for 22 players to have physical contact with each other?”

Arthur Jones: “Sorry I don’t want to watch football behind closed doors not the same and won’t be paying for a streaming service either, this done for integrity or money.”

Susan Pickering: “Sorry but this season should be void how can the players socially distance themselves it’s just ridiculous.”

Mark Baggo: “What is the point of this statement, it doesn’t tell us anything we don’t already know.”

Andrew Walker: “This is why I haven’t renewed yet…. And if they play behind closed doors I want a refund on the matches I’m not allowed to go to. The clubs need to stick up for the fans and tell the FA this is not an option.”

Michael Jakub: “Would season ticket holders get a refund?”
