Roof of Staffordshire house collapses as firefighters tackle blaze


The roof of a Staffordshire house has collapsed due to a fire.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service crews were called to Rawnsley, in Cannock, at around 6.34pm this evening following reports of a house fire at a detached property.

On arrival, firefighters found the building well alight and used three main jets to extinguish the blaze.

All occupants were accounted for and are safe with the fire now under control.

A fire service spokeswoman said: “We have four appliances and two specialist appliances at a house fire in Cannock. Everyone is safe and crews are working hard to extinguish the fire due to the collapse of the roof.

“The first call was received at 6.34pm. Three main jets have been in use and the fire is now under control.

“As of 10pm firefighters are still at the scene and an investigation is underway to determine the cause.”

Earlier this evening the fire service had advised members of the public to avoid the area and for residents to keep their windows closed while the incident was dealt with.
