Port Vale’s game at Scunthorpe will go ahead this afternoon despite one of the Iron’s players testing positive for coronavirus.
The Carabao Cup tie is both clubs’ first competitive fixture of 2020/21, the season kicking off a month later than usual after the 2019/20 campaign was cut short in March.
News of the positve test has been revealed by Scunthorpe United, who say: “Scunthorpe United Football Club can confirm that one of its players has returned a positive test result following the recent round of COVID-19 testing.
“The club is following all the EFL’s COVID-19 protocols and will not name the player in question. We ask that their request for privacy and confidentiality are respected at this time.
“In following those protocols, we can also confirm the home Carabao Cup match against Port Vale on Saturday, September 5th will still go ahead as planned.”
