A second person who had tested positive for Covid-19 has died at the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
John Oxtoby, medical director at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust said: “Sadly, we can confirm that a patient who was being cared for at Royal Stoke University Hospital, and had tested positive for Covid-19, had died.
“The patient, 51, had underlying health conditions and died on Friday, March 20.
“His family have been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.”
A man, aged 73, who was also tested positive for Covid-19 and had underlying health conditions died on at the hospital on Thursday, March 19.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said earlier today the death toll from coronavirus was 281 in the UK with 5,683 confirmed cases.
