Another seven people who have tested positive for coronavirus have been confirmed to have died at the University Hospital of North Midlands Trust – according to the latest NHS England update this afternoon (Friday April 10).
Today’s update means a total of 78 patients have died at the trust – which consists of Stoke-on-Trent’s Royal Stoke University Hospital and Stafford’s County Hospital – after being confirmed to have Covid-19 since the pandemic started.
This is up from the 71 cases confirmed in Thursday’s update – although it does sometimes take several days for deaths to appear in the statistics.
Two more deaths have also been confirmed at the Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which includes Leighton Hospital in Crewe, bringing the total there up to 36.
Another five deaths were confirmed at East Cheshire NHS Trust – which consists of Macclesfield District General Hospital and Congleton War Memorial Hospital, bringing the number there up to 21.
NHS England has announced 866 new deaths of people who tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 8,114.
Of the 866 new deaths announced today, 117 occurred on April 9 while 720 took place between April 1 and April 8.
The remaining 29 deaths occurred in March, including one on March 5.
Information on when the latest confirmed deaths occurred at hospitals in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire and Cheshire East is not available.
The latest overall UK figures for deaths and confirmed cases have not been released as of publication.
Health authorities in the UK do not release figures on how many people have recovered as part of the daily update.
Five NHS trusts in England have announced at least 200 coronavirus-related deaths to date, according to figures from NHS England.
As of 5pm on April 9, the totals are:
- University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust: 365
- London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust: 252
- King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust: 221
- Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust: 218
- Barts Health NHS Trust: 203
